4. Resistances of reinforced concrete
The concrete-steel combination can withstand the stresses encountered in construction. The reinforcement must be placed at points where it is necessary to absorb extensional forces due to :
or direct traction (tie rods);
simple or compound bending (beams, pillars, etc.).
The phenomenon of adhesion enables the transfer of forces from concrete to steel and vice versa.
