Pathology of humidity. Clad walls - Case study

The "condensation/potential evaporation" balance for 1 linear metre (l.m.) of facade (assuming a storey height of 3 m) is as follows:

• condensation: 15.8919 g/m ² · h x 0.95 m x 3.00 m 45.2919 g/h ;

• evaporation: - 0.0579 g/m ² · h x 0.05 m x 3.00 m - 0.0087 g/h ;

• total condensable per m.l. of frontage: 45.2832 g/h.

The balance is largely "in favor" of condensation. This explains and justifies the construction system recommended in DTU 20.1 for masonry of small elements...
