Methodology for uncertainty management in EMC measurements

EMC is what allows a device, electrical or electronic system to coexist harmoniously in its environment. A device must be able to operate without disrupting or being disrupted by electromagnetic interference generated by other devices in its environment.

Calculating the uncertainties associated with an EMC test is a complex exercise once the product being tested is included. Standard procedures indicate how to calculate the uncertainties in the measurement chain. Since the latter does not depend on the product, its uncertainty can be assessed. However, elements belonging to the measurement environment, even without the product, already appear to be significant sources of uncertainty, such as the method of connecting the metal plane of the test table to the metal floor of the test chamber.
