5. Conclusion
Tools for optical and spectroscopic characterization of luminescent
materials are of course constantly evolving, but most of the techniques
presented in this article will remain the same for a long time to
come, at least in principle. Many are based on new-generation laser
sources. This is the case, for example, with optical parametric oscillators
(OPOs), which make it possible to analyze phenomena over increasingly
wide wavelength ranges. This is likely to soon be the case with super-continuum
fiber laser sources. Spectrum analyzers have also evolved enormously.
Diffraction grating monochromators will of course continue to be the
most widely used, as they are extremely flexible in use and often
enable the grating and associated detector to be adapted to the wavelength
