5. Scenarios for the Introduction of Coexisting Passive Optical Networks

Figure 25 shows the wavelengths used in PON systems. We observe that the wavelengths defined for the downstream and upstream directions of the various GPON, XG(S)-PON, and 50G-PON systems allow for their coexistence. One application for GPON is video signal overlay, using a wavelength of 1,550 nm for the downstream video signal.
