Use and main types of analog frequency
dividers
Most microwave systems feature a microwave source frequency-stabilized
by a phase-locked loop. Frequency dividers are an important component
of these subassemblies. Starting from a microwave frequency, these
loops include a frequency division to perform a phase comparison with
the signal emanating from a reference oscillator such as a quartz
oscillator. This division can be up to a factor of 100, but much of
it can be performed by digital dividers. These dividers operate at
frequencies of around ten or several tens of GHz in Si technology
