2.1 Mixing principles: modulation, demodulation, phase comparison

Two signals X1 = A1 cos(ω1t + φ1) and X2 = A2 cos(ω2t + φ2) are applied to the input of a mixing cell (figure 8). If the response of this cell is quadratic (Y = X + X2), the output is written as :

X1+X2+X12+X22+2X1 X2=A1 cos(ω1 t+φ1)+ A2 cos(ω2 t+φ2)+A12 cos2(ω1 t+φ1)+A22 cos2(ω2 t+φ2)+ 2A1 A2 cos(ω1 t+φ1) cos(ω2 t+φ2)
