Triacs can be controlled in much the same way as thyristors, except that they are often used in low-power converters where the cost of control circuits must be very low. Pulse transformers are rarely used to control triacs. The current trend is to integrate functions to enable quasi-direct control by logic circuits, or even microcontrollers, generally without galvanic isolation.
