9. Equations of state and time constants
The state variables of a system are a set of variables that describe the system and its evolution.
The order of the system is equal to the smallest number of variables that can be found.
An equation of state is the expression of the first derivatives of state variables in terms of the variables themselves.
The notion of state variables only applies to a complete system, not to an isolated machine. For this reason, we'll deal with an easily generalized example: an induction motor with a short-circuited rotor, supplied by perfect voltage sources, whose axis is integral with a frictionless inertia.
