The operation of a plasma torch causes nuisances that must be addressed.

• Noise

  Arc torches operating in the open air emit noise levels of 110 to 130 dB. They must therefore be used in a suitable acoustic enclosure or, where possible, integrated into the process.

  RF torches generate much less noise pollution and are most often used in a controlled atmosphere chamber at a pressure of several tens of kPa.

• Ultraviolet radiation

  Arc plasma jets, and more specifically transferred arcs, emit high levels of UV radiation, against which appropriate protective measures must be taken (particularly eye protection).
