The description of ESD (see [D 5 170] of this treatise) has shown that electronic components and circuits are the main victims of ESD, and that the essential characteristics of an electrostatic discharge are :
a very short rise time (1 to 5 ns);
an equally short duration to mid-value at fallout (50 to 100 ns);
relatively low energy (typically 20 mJ).
