3. General exchanger architecture
The heat exchanger has two complementary aspects: the global aspect, characterized by the input-output quantities, and the local aspect, characterized by the flow exchanged at an elementary surface. This flow is determined by the mixing temperatures of each fluid, their velocities and the physical properties of the fluids and materials. It is also a function of exchanger geometry and the way the fluids flow relative to each other.
Within the quadrupole defined above, fluids can follow complex trajectories. Nevertheless, three types of flow configuration can be distinguished.
