1. What are DNELs?
1.1 Definition
Derived No-Effect Levels (DNELs) have been defined based on the effects of doses used in toxicology studies. These are the exposure levels for a chemical substance below which human populations, including workers, should not be affected.
For substances with no threshold effect (genotoxic, carcinogenic), for which a no-effect dose cannot be defined, a semi-quantitative assessment of calculated minimal effect levels (Derived Minimal Effect Level –, DMEL) will be performed.
In the absence of data, a qualitative assessment based on expertise will be used.
