Since 2005, any company that produces, holds, or collects hazardous waste must keep a "waste register," an obligation that was extended in 2012 to non-hazardous waste. Since that year, with the exception of organizations that entrust their waste to local authorities, all companies are therefore legally required to produce a waste register. Law No. 2020-105 of February 10, 2020, on waste reduction and the circular economy (often referred to as the Anti-Waste Law for a Circular Economy, or AGEC Law) paved the way for improved waste traceability.
