7. Analysis of domino effects

7.1 Definition

A domino effect can be defined as the action of a first dangerous phenomenon capable of generating a second accident on a neighboring installation or establishment, the effects of which would be more "serious" than those of the first accident.

The analysis of domino effects can therefore focus on :

  • between units ;

  • between plants.

The effects of hazardous phenomena to be taken into account in the analysis of domino effects are mainly :

  • thermal effects ;

  • mechanical effects of an overpressure wave ;

  • mechanical effects...
