3. Main steps in risk analysis
The risk analysis carried out as part of an ESD must meet the requirements of Article L. 512-1 of the French Environment Code, i.e. :
"Where necessary, this study gives rise to a risk analysis that takes into account the probability of occurrence, the kinetics and the severity of accidents, according to a methodology that it specifies. It defines and justifies measures to reduce the probability and effects of accidents".
From the above formulation, it is clear that no methodology is imposed. In practice, certain methods, such as the bow-tie approach, have become virtually indispensable in the context of ESDs. It is important to remember that the risk analysis method chosen must be in line with the criticality...
