Detecting sensitizing substances through animal and human testing

A questionable test result, especially if it does not classify your substance, may allow a sensitizing substance to slip through that could affect employees or users who come into contact with your substance. However, in the event of an incorrect sensitizing classification, it could unnecessarily and severely limit the use of your substance.

Repeat the test as recommended by the OECD in Guideline No. 406: "The LLNA or MEST may be used in an initial phase of the evaluation of skin sensitization potential. If a test substance gives a positive result in either of these tests, it may be considered a potential sensitizer, and it may not be necessary to perform a complementary test on guinea pigs.
