2. Pyrolysis models
In the detailed study of the fire behavior of materials, the relationship between temperature, atmosphere and thermal decomposition kinetics of the material under consideration is essential. This relationship is known as the pyrolysis model.
Pyrolysis of a material can only be modeled for an element of volume dV that can be considered homogeneous in temperature and composition at any given time. The aim is to understand the chemical transformations and devolatilization of this element as a function of temperature. Once this model has been established, it is then necessary to couple it with other physical models, in particular heat transfer models and, in the case of the most detailed approaches, a fluid mechanics or diffusion model, in order to best apprehend the boundary conditions of this volume element, in particular the atmosphere in which decomposition takes...
