4. Conclusion
There is no doubt that fuel-cell electric vehicles will be on our roads in the future. After being considered a “promising” technology for many years, fuel cells and fuel-cell vehicles are now the focus of intensive development programs. Fuel cell technology is now well established. For land transportation, the technology of choice is the PEMFC; the preferred method of hydrogen storage is under pressure at 350 or 700 bar.
Significant work must be done on carbon-free hydrogen production and storage to enable significant adoption of hydrogen-powered mobility. Reducing the price of green hydrogen requires massive investments in electrolysers and refueling stations, which will need to be partially funded by governments.
