6. Aggregation of hazardous phenomena
6.1 Principle
The purpose of aggregating probabilities is to answer the following fundamental question: "Is the multiplicity of equipment of the same kind a factor that increases risk?"
For example, it seems legitimate to ask whether the probability of observing a capacity BLEVE on a site with four overhead tanks is four times "greater" than on a site with just one tank.
There is no regulatory text specifying the nature of authorized approvals.
The aggregations most often performed in ESDs concern :
