The design of a fuel cell appears simple at first glance. It consists of a stack of alternating AMEs and bipolar plates.
However, the problem of designing and building a fuel cell that meets the criteria of high efficiency, compactness and low mass is a complex one, since the skills required are many and varied. Compromise solutions must therefore be found to meet the requirements of different fields.
Electrochemistry: the basis of the reaction that simultaneously produces water, heat and electric current. It is used to define operating parameters (fluid flow rates and pressures, gas composition and temperature) and geometry (number and active surface of cells).
