Although the field of odour metrology is relatively recent (the first version of the
NF EN 13725
which sets out how odor persistence is to be measured at European level, dates from the end of 2003), regulations, which are generally based on the latest technical advances, also remain a very modern art. However, French regulations (such as the decree of February 2, 1998, relating to water abstraction and consumption, and to emissions of all kinds from ICPEs subject to authorization) had already appeared to provide a framework for odor-emitting industries.
