2. Quantifying fragmentation phenomena
Attempts at quantification have been the subject of a great deal of theoretical work, covering both energetic and morphological aspects, as well as the transformations taking place in fragmentation devices.
Three main theories have been put forward to describe the relationship between the energy consumed E by the material and the reduction in its dimension D during fragmentation. To date, the hypotheses put forward to develop this relationship have not been rigorously proven, since we still don't know how to measure the amount of energy actually absorbed by particles during fragmentation. We can only measure the total energy consumed by the fragmentation device.
