3.1.1 Principle
The excellent resolution and relative ease of use of gel electrophoresis for analytical purposes naturally led to attempts to use it as a preparative method. The principle is simple (figure

). It involves a process comprising separation (electrophoresis) and recovery of the separated products (elution).
