We are going to present the postulates or axioms of mechanics. Readers should not be alarmed. In a way, they represent the ultimate synthesis of knowledge accumulated over the ages. They set the framework for the theory and define the concepts on which it is based. We will use here the excellent formulation of Cazin and Destouches (cf. ).
