Project management - The case of an oil refinery

In the light of feasibility and profitability studies, the Typol oil company has decided to build a new refinery for one of its subsidiaries (Philékistan Typol Co), headquartered in Philékistan, on a greenfield site near Kumpt Harbour, a major port with a quay and sufficient handling facilities to unload all imported materials. It has been agreed with the local authorities that crude oil could subsequently also be unloaded at Kumpt Harbour, on an available but currently unequipped quay; a pipeline will have to be built from the port to the site, which is not a problem as the right-of-way has long been reserved. Finished products will have to be evacuated by road, using the trucks of local distributors.
