Can I use images I've seen on the Internet?

No, without express authorization from the author. Yes, if the license attached to the work corresponds to the use you wish to make of it.

On Flickr, for example, some pictures are offered under a CC license, others with the © symbol. You should therefore ask for authorization in the second case, but also if the CC license prohibits modification of the work or commercial use, and these are the two uses you need.
