How do you protect software or computer creations?

The author of a copyright-protectable work enjoys a monopoly of exploitation that takes effect at the time of creation for the entire duration of copyright protection, i.e. the author's entire life and seventy years following his death. The author also retains the moral right to his work, which is perpetual, imprescriptible and inalienable.

In practice, the moral rights of software authors are limited to the right of paternity, which requires them to be mentioned as the author of the work. Indeed, contrary to common copyright law, according to article L. 121-7 of Code de la propriété intellectuelle , unless otherwise stipulated and more favorable to the software author, the latter cannot :
