Neither computer creations nor software are defined by Code de la propriété intellectuelle.

The notion of "computer creation" is a broad one, including software, insofar as it concerns all creations implemented by means of a computer. In addition to software, "software creation" can also include graphic interfaces, algorithms, programming languages, functionalities and documentation.

Software has been defined by arrêté du 22 décembre 1981 sur l’enrichissement de la langue française as "a set of programs, procedures and rules, and possibly documentation, relating to the operation of a data processing system".
