Summary
Single-leaf carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) have original physical properties due to their composition – they consist solely of carbon atoms – and their low dimensionality. As far as their optical properties are concerned, semiconducting SWNTs emit light in the near infrared – they are known as photoluminescent or fluorescent – at wavelengths that depend on their structure and dielectric environment.
