After what we have just seen, we can consider that many of MathML's objectives have already been achieved. As far as the exchange of rich scientific information via the Internet is concerned, we have seen that authoring systems for scientific documents and Web browsers are now in a position to make effective use of MathML. What remains to be developed is certainly the approach to mathematical semantics via MathML and its use as a pivotal format for information exchange.

The field of scientific typesetting is particularly concerned by this last point.
