MPEG-4: basic coding

As this first dossier and the tables presented in [Doc. TE 5 635] show, MPEG-4, which is intended to be a "universal" standard for a wide range of applications, both professional and consumer, is a vast and complex standard. In all likelihood, not all the Profiles and Levels envisaged by the standard, with their extreme variety of objects and tools, will be implemented. But the object and scene concepts introduced by MPEG-4 represent an important evolution. MPEG-4 should rapidly become established in audio-video broadcasting and distribution at all quality levels, and enable the progressive implementation of interactivity.
