4. Stereoscopic image storage and distribution
At the end of the production and post-production stages, the question arises of the formats adopted for storing and distributing stereoscopic images. While it is possible to store two files or two streams of images in full definition, this doubles the storage volume required and the bit rate needed to transport them, compared with 2D images. The aim, in terms of distribution, is to use a single HD channel. Two main families of techniques have been developed to achieve this goal.
