Linux , also known as GNU/Linux, is an open-source Unix operating system. It was originally developed by Linus Torvalds for PC machines, but has since been adapted for other platforms such as PowerPC, Macintosh, Amiga, Atari, DEC Alpha, Sun Sparc, ARM, etc.
