5. Conclusion

Controlling corrosion under thermal insulation is essential to the reliability of industrial equipment and operator safety.

Compared to other forms of degradation, this type of corrosion has two distinctive features: its localized nature and the difficulty of detecting it early on. Having effective and reliable inspection methods is therefore crucial. This requires both optimized inspection plans that prioritize the highest-risk areas—potentially using RBI techniques—and proven non-destructive testing methods.

In terms of prevention, the most effective current approaches involve protecting metal surfaces with specific organic and metallic coatings.
