The industrial fields concerned are many and varied. Without being exhaustive, they include

• traditional high-temperature materials processing sectors, such as the iron and steel, non-ferrous metallurgy, cement, glass, ceramics and raw materials industries, which are constantly striving to improve their production processes and energy efficiency;

• energy production: petrochemicals, fossil fuel power generation;

• new energy applications such as coal gasification, the production of biofuels, heat and electricity from high-temperature biomass, SOFC (Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) fuel cells, future generations of nuclear reactors (generation IV) and the ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor)...
