Before looking at the various manufacturing processes for large steel castings, or casting processes, it's important to remember what we mean by "large castings".
This notion of weight, perceived differently from one company to another, is closely linked to the notion of series, but also very often to other criteria, such as thickness. Indeed, by definition, heavy and massive castings are generally very thick, and tend to be manufactured in small quantities, or even individually.
