Table 3[5] summarizes the factors affecting joint strength. It is therefore important to establish the test conditions that will characterize the bond's performance.

Non-destructive tests, such as ultrasound and tomography, can reveal defects in the adhesive or the interface, but cannot check whether the adhesive is adhering properly. To assess the performance and durability of bonded systems, it is necessary to determine a parameter that characterizes adhesion. This parameter is measured in a mechanical test by applying a stress mode (tensile, shear, peel, etc.) (§ 5.1
