INTRODUCTION
Particularly with the opening up of the single European market, standardization has become a major factor in trade. It is a market regulation tool.
In order to provide the reader with the best possible approach to the standardization of plastics and composites materials and products, this treatise also covers the general aspects of standardization (purpose, organization, types of standards, etc.) at international, European and French level. The organization of standardization itself is briefly described.
This second edition was written at the beginning of 2004. At the time of going to press, changes were already taking place. Today, techniques are evolving rapidly, global needs are becoming ever more pressing, and world markets are expanding daily. Standardization must keep pace with these developments. New subjects are being considered or will be considered in the near future, resulting in restructuring and/or the creation of new commissions. This should prompt the reader to check with the relevant bodies that the elements contained in this document are still in force.
