5. Conclusion

This article presents the technologies, knowledge and methods needed to understand and predict laminated composite structures. This field is marked by a constant evolution of technologies, materials and also calculation methods that take damage into account and enable calculations up to failure.

Initially reserved for the aeronautics and space industries, concerns about structural performance and weight reduction have led to the widespread use of long-fiber composite structures in a wide range of fields, including land and rail transport, shipbuilding and energy (wind power in particular). In particular, the future of composite structures lies in optimizing manufacturing costs by automating processes, developing multifunctional composite structures and introducing low-cost carbon fibers, while integrating the notion of end-of-life recycling.
