4. Examples of commonly used steels
These steels are selected from the tool steel class.
4.1 Impression steel from conventional metallurgy: the example of X38CrMoV5
An example of a common treatment for this steel is shown in figure 8. The steel is annealed to homogenize its structure, which then consists of ferrite and carbides. This softens the material and facilitates processing. After roughing and semi-finishing, the steel is heat-treated by quenching and tempering.
