2. Creep-resistant nickel- and cobalt-based steels and alloys

European standard NF EN 10302 of January 2003 applies to wrought steel and alloy grades used in the manufacture of parts and materials whose main requirement is creep resistance when subjected to long-term stresses at temperatures above 500°C.

The refractory steel grades defined in standard NF EN 10095 may, if agreed, be used for similar applications.

2.1 Definitions and classification

Creep-resistant materials are nickel- or cobalt-based steels and alloys with a minimum chromium content of 8%, characterized by good mechanical behavior at temperatures above 500°C under prolonged service conditions, i.e. high creep deformation resistance or high fracture toughness during prolonged stress holding....
