5. Conclusion
Given the very wide range of uses for general-purpose steels, products have become highly diversified in terms of shape, chemical composition, microstructure, coatings, mechanical and chemical properties (corrosion resistance). This means that they have to be adapted ever more precisely to their end uses. This is particularly true for heavy plates and sheets, but especially for thin plates, resulting in a considerable increase in the number of standards and grades.
