4. Quality selection
The grade chosen guarantees the static strength of the construction. There are two main reasons for adapting steel quality to a given application:
The notion of quality corresponds to specified property requirements in terms of toughness, grain size and/or formability.
The first reason may be the severity of forming or welding operations, which require greater ductility or weldability. This is achieved by lowering impurity, carbon or alloying element contents.
