7. Finishing treatments
They mainly concern welded joints (and heat-treated parts) which, depending on the process, may be coated with oxides. The presence of these oxides means the absence of a passive layer, and therefore greatly reduced corrosion resistance. With certain welding processes (resistance welding), the surface of the material is virtually unaltered, and brushing may suffice. Otherwise, a pickling-passivation treatment is required.
7.1 Stripping
When the welded joint or an entire part is covered with colored oxides, they must be removed to restore the alloy's passive character.
