The intermetallic compound TiAl possesses a number of characteristics that make it an increasingly essential structural material for the 650-850°C temperature range. This makes it the best candidate in turbomachinery for replacing titanium alloys in hot turbocharger sections, or nickel-based superalloys in low-pressure turbine stages (figure
