First of all, before talking about documentation, it's important to go back to the definition of the term "document". ISO9000 defines a document as "an information carrier and the information it contains". The document has always been the combination of information and its support:

• Information is the meaningful part or content. It is characterized by intellectual properties: document purpose, author, source, date, keywords, etc.

• The information medium is the container. It is characterized by physical properties: nature, material, weight, size, mode of use, etc.

ISO9001, since the 2015 version, no longer uses the terms "document", "documented procedures" or "records" but uses the generic term "documented information".
