2. Multi-component measurement systems
We have just described the measurement of one component of a force and one component of a moment (torque). It is becoming commonplace to measure several components, either of a force, or of a moment, or more generally of both, which enables precise knowledge of the mechanical actions exerted on a system.
There's one constructive arrangement that's frequently encountered in mechanical assemblies and/or machines, and that's the connection between two parts that must retain a degree of freedom between one and the other. This arrangement is known as a clevis/trunnion connection, with a hinge pin.
