1. Description of a common driveline
As shown in figure 1 , there are many different drivetrain architectures, the most common today being front-wheel drive, generally with a transverse engine (figure 1 a), mainly for reasons of roadholding on low-grip surfaces, but also for reasons of cost and size. Other vehicles use rear-wheel drive (figure 1 b) or four-wheel drive (figure 1 c).
