2. Impact of charge exchanger downstream temperature
Reducing charge air temperature enables :
increase air mass flow at isodensity, and therefore engine power (this point will not be discussed in detail, but the reader can refer to the basic equations for internal combustion engines);
reduce thermal stress on motor components (plastic components can be used);
more specifically, the temperature of the gases downstream of the exchanger will influence fuel combustion in the cylinder.
On this last point, it is interesting to note that the temperature downstream of the heat exchanger will have a strong impact on the temperature in the cylinder just before combustion starts (end of compression), such as :
